Crocoparc Agadir, Botanical garden and zoo in Drarga, Morocco
Crocoparc Agadir is a botanical garden and zoo located in Drarga, near Agadir in Morocco. The site is built around three large basins where Nile crocodiles live, and the surrounding planted areas contain over 300 plant species.
The park opened in 2015, bringing crocodiles back to Morocco after more than a century without them in the wild. Their disappearance had been caused by hunting and the loss of their natural habitat.
Nile crocodiles carry deep symbolic weight across North Africa, and for many Moroccan visitors, seeing them here feels like reconnecting with a part of the country's natural past. The park also displays plant collections from different Moroccan climates, giving a sense of the variety found across the country.
Paths lead past enclosures with giant tortoises, iguanas, snakes, and small primates, so comfortable shoes and enough time to walk through all sections are recommended. Visiting on a cloudy day or early in the morning is a good idea, as shade in the open areas is limited.
An elevated walkway called the Monkey Bridge runs above part of the grounds and gives a bird's-eye view of the crocodile basins and planted zones below. From up there, the full layout of the park becomes visible in a way that ground-level paths cannot offer.
