Triumphal Arch, Chișinău, Neoclassical triumphal arch in Chișinău, Moldova.
The Triumphal Arch is a Neoclassical monument made of white limestone with four Corinthian columns located near the Cathedral of Chișinău. The structure rises to approximately 13 meters in height and spans about 10 meters in width at its base.
The monument was built in 1841 by architect Luca Zaușkevici to mark the Russian Empire's victory in the Russo-Turkish War of 1828-1829. It was originally designed to commemorate this military achievement.
The arch features a mechanical clock on its upper section that glows at night and functions as a gathering spot for locals. People around the city view this location as a place to pause and meet on their daily walks.
The monument is located on Ștefan cel Mare Boulevard at the entrance of the central public garden and is easily accessible. The site is open to visitors at any time, and the night lighting makes it worth visiting after dark.
Until 2011, the arch supported a 6,400-kilogram bell cast from captured Turkish cannons on its upper section. The bell was an unusual addition that reflected the monument's connection to its military origins.
