Doclea, archaeologic site in Montenegro
Doclea is an ancient Roman city in Podgorica Municipality, with ruins spread across open ground near a riverbank. The remains reveal the layout of a typical Roman settlement, including visible foundations of buildings, pathways, and public spaces from different periods of antiquity.
Doclea was established as a major regional settlement during Roman times and thrived across several ancient periods. The city was eventually abandoned, and its structures were gradually covered by erosion and weather over the centuries.
The site lies in open landscape and is best visited in good weather and daylight when visibility and orientation across the grounds are easier. Comfortable footwear is recommended since walking involves navigating uneven terrain with ruins scattered about.
