Trnovačko Lake

Trnovačko Lake is a mountain body of water situated near Maglic Peak at an elevation of 1517 meters. The water displays a deep green-blue hue and is surrounded by three mountain ranges—Maglic, Volujak, and Bioc—that form a rocky circle.

The lake formed during the last ice age when glaciers carved a deep basin into the surrounding mountains. This glacial action shaped the distinctive form that visitors encounter today.

The heart shape of the water body is woven into local stories, linking people from Montenegro and Bosnia through shared narratives about the lake. This natural form has become part of how communities think about their border region.

The summer months from June through September offer the most favorable hiking conditions for reaching and exploring this location. The northern wooded shoreline provides shaded areas and suitable spots for camping.

The water reflects the surrounding mountain peaks so clearly that it creates a mirror-like surface, seeming to double the rocky peaks above. This optical effect is particularly striking on calm days.
