Mein-ma-hla Kyun Wildlife Sanctuary

The sanctuary spans 500 square kilometers across an island in the Ayeyarwady Delta, featuring extensive mangrove forests and varying elevations up to 30 meters.

Established in 1993 under the Myanmar Forest Department supervision, the sanctuary received designation as a Ramsar site in 2017 for its international biodiversity importance.

The sanctuary contains 53 species of medicinal plants traditionally used by local communities, along with numerous mangrove species supporting regional ecological knowledge.

Visitors must register at the Sanctuary Headquarters in Bogale, where staff can arrange boat transportation and connect travelers with experienced park rangers.

The sanctuary houses Myanmar's last estuarine population of saltwater crocodiles and documented the first national sighting of fishing cats in 2016.
