Genghis Khan Equestrian Statue, Stainless steel equestrian statue in Nalaikh, Mongolia
The Genghis Khan Equestrian Statue is a stainless steel equestrian monument in Nalaikh, Mongolia. The 10-meter sculpture sits on a circular base and rises about 40 meters above the ground in total.
The monument was built in 2008 to mark 800 years since the founding of the Mongol Empire. The site is believed to be where the Khan discovered a golden whip.
The statue shows the rider in full military dress and faces east. The platform beneath his feet houses exhibition rooms displaying objects from different centuries of Mongol rule.
Visitors can climb up through the interior and look at the landscape through windows in the horse's head. The building also includes souvenir shops and a small food outlet on the lower level.
A reconstructed settlement of yurts surrounds the structure and shows how tribes lived in the 13th century. This setting extends the visit with a tangible picture of daily life from that era.
