Ta' Dmejrek, Summit at Dingli Cliffs, Malta.
Ta' Dmejrek is the highest point on the island of Malta, located on the western coast near the Dingli Cliffs. The summit is made of limestone and drops sharply on the seaward side into tall cliffs above the Mediterranean.
Sailors used this summit as a navigation landmark from ancient times on routes across the central Mediterranean. Its position, clearly visible from the sea, made it a reference point for trading ships passing along the Maltese coast.
The fields around the summit are divided into terraces worked by local farmers using methods passed down over generations. This pattern of cultivation shapes the landscape and gives the area a character tied closely to the land.
The summit can be reached on foot from Dingli village along a marked path. The spot is very exposed, so it is worth bringing a windproof layer especially if you visit early in the day.
Three geological fault lines meet beneath this summit, and their intersection shaped the natural platform on which it stands today. From here, visitors can see the small island of Filfla, which is closed to the public and can only be viewed from the shore.
