Santa Marija Tal-Virtù Chapel

Santa Marija Tal-Virtù Chapel is a circular limestone structure standing on the summit of Virtù Hill, crowned with a dome topped by a statue of Jesus the Redeemer. Beneath its floor lies a crypt that contains burial sites from different historical periods discovered during excavations.

The building was constructed in 1723 atop medieval foundations that reflected earlier settlement patterns. The graves found in the crypt reveal that this hilltop held significance for various societies across the centuries.

The chapel is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary and serves as a place where visitors and locals come to pray and reflect. Its religious purpose shapes how people use and experience this spot on the hilltop.

After years of neglect, the chapel underwent major restoration work in 1988 when it had been used for unauthorized purposes and marked with symbols on its floors. This renovation saved the building from continued deterioration.
