Auberge d'Aragon

The Auberge d'Aragon is a stone residential building from the 16th century in Birgu that spans two stories with a central doorway flanked by two balconies on its front face. The private residence maintains its historical character despite modern alterations to parts of its exterior.

This lodging emerged in the 16th century as a residential quarters for knights from Aragon, Navarre, and Catalonia within the Order of Saint John. After 1571, the residents relocated to a larger building located in Valletta.

The building displays Spanish architectural features that mirror the regional origins of its first residents. These details in stonework and facade design tell of the diversity within the Order of Saint John.
