Greek's Gate, Medieval gate in Mdina, Malta
The Greek Gate consists of two vaulted gateways, with the inner section maintaining medieval features and an outer portal exhibiting Baroque architectural elements.
Built during medieval times, the gate underwent substantial modifications in 1724 when architect Charles François de Mondion redesigned its exterior portal in Baroque style.
The gate received its name from the Greek community that resided nearby, and it served as the designated entrance point for slaves into the fortified city.
Located near the southwest corner of Mdina, the Greek Gate functions as one of two main entrances into the fortified city, connecting to Piazza dei Greci.
The inner portal retains its original pointed arch design from medieval times, making it one of the few remaining visible sections of Mdina's medieval fortifications.
