Banca Giuratale, Baroque administrative building in Mdina, Malta

The Banca Giuratale features a decorated semicircular vault at the main entrance supported by two columns, displaying refined architectural details of the period.

Between 1726 and 1728, French architect Charles François de Mondion constructed this building to house the Università after their original premises became Palazzo Vilhena.

The Legal Documentation Section of the National Archives stored within the building maintains court records from 1530, preserving centuries of Maltese judicial history.

While the building appears on the Maltese Lm2 banknote from 1989 to 2007, visitors can only view its exterior as the interior remains closed to public access.

The structure maintained its administrative function through various roles, from civil council headquarters to secondary school, before becoming an archival repository in 1988.
