Faadhippolhu Atoll, Administrative atoll in Maldives.
Faadhippolhu is an atoll in the Maldives made up of 54 islands, with only four being inhabited: Naifaru, Hinnavaru, Kurendhoo, and Olhuvelifushi. Eight resorts are distributed across it, including Thilamaafushi, Kuredhu, Komandoo, and Kanuhuraa Palmbeach, while Madivaru Airport provides access to the region.
The island of Maafilaafushi served as the capital of the separatist Kingdom of Boduthiladhunmathi before being resettled during the 1980s. This change marked a turning point in the region's administrative history.
The name comes from the local language, and residents simply call it Faadhippolhu without adding the word for atoll in everyday speech. This naming habit reflects how people naturally refer to their home in daily life.
The easiest way to visit is through Madivaru Airport, the main entry point to the region. Most travelers follow established routes to the resorts or inhabited islands, with boats and water transport being the main way to move between sites.
The island of Felivaru houses the only tuna canning factory in the Maldives, positioned strategically between the more populated islands of Naifaru and Hinnavaru. This factory is a major economic anchor for the area and shows how fishing shapes daily life here.
