Vizhinjam International Seaport

Vizhinjam International Seaport is a deep water container terminal in Thiruvananthapuram with two working berths and a natural depth of 24 meters that can handle large cargo ships. The facility connects to major shipping routes serving trade between Europe, the Persian Gulf, and Southeast Asia.

Maritime trade at Vizhinjam dates back to the second century BCE, with Raja Kesava Das later developing it as a small port during the 1700s. This transformation from an ancient trading site to a modern facility reflects the enduring connection between this coastline and sea commerce.

The facility features India's tallest Super Post-Panamax container crane, an impressive machine built for loading and unloading the largest modern vessels. This equipment investment allows the port to handle ships carrying over 24,000 TEU once at full capacity.
