Nok

Nok is an archaeological site in Kaduna State with multiple excavation areas where terracotta figurines and ancient artifacts have been uncovered. The grounds feature several distinct zones where visitors can explore the remains of past settlements.

The site became known to the world when tin miners discovered terracotta sculptures in 1943 while working the land. These discoveries sparked intensive archaeological research that revealed the importance of this settlement over multiple centuries.

The excavated terracotta heads and vessels show that early peoples here possessed sophisticated artistic techniques and worked with iron and other metals. These findings reveal how their ancestors expressed themselves through sculpture and daily objects.

Plan your visit in advance and arrive early in the morning to explore the archaeological areas. Bring plenty of water and sun protection, as the area can be quite hot, and wear sturdy shoes for walking through uneven terrain.

The site contains multiple caves including the Welfare Cave marked with colored dots indicating childbirths and the Barn Cave used for storing food during dry seasons. These hidden spaces offer glimpses into how ancient people managed their daily lives.
