Rozendaal

Rozendaal is a small municipality in Gelderland near Arnhem that grew around a historic castle. The settlement spreads across gently rolling land and keeps a quiet, rural feel with well-maintained houses and open green spaces.

The area was inhabited early on, but the formal municipality only took shape in 1818 as an official administrative unit. The spelling of its name shifted between Rozendaal and Rosendaal until 1933, when the current form was fixed.

The castle dominates the town and draws visitors to explore its classic gardens with artificial water features. These water tricks, called bedriegertjes, show how Dutch garden design brings together nature and clever engineering.

The place is small and easy to explore on foot, with clear paths around the castle and through the residential areas. Most visitors park near the castle and then stroll through the neat streets and parks.

Despite its small population, Rozendaal ranks among the wealthiest municipalities in the Netherlands. This creates an interesting contrast between its modest size and considerable prosperity.
