Kunstlinie Almere Flevoland, Theatre and exhibition hall at Weerwater, Almere, Netherlands
Kunstlinie Almere Flevoland is a theatre and exhibition hall located beside Weerwater lake in central Almere with a distinctive glass exterior. The building contains three performance halls, four foyers, and twelve meeting rooms arranged to accommodate various events and gatherings.
The building was designed by Japanese architects Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa from the SANAA firm and opened in 2007. Queen Beatrix inaugurated the new cultural venue that year, marking an important addition to Almere's public spaces.
The venue hosts dance performances, theatre productions, art exhibitions, and musical concerts that draw both local audiences and visitors. This mix of artistic events shapes how people in the city experience and engage with contemporary culture.
The venue is fully accessible to wheelchair users and offers assistive listening devices for those who need them. Visitors should check the event schedule in advance to plan their visit and find activities that match their interests.
Embedded in the building's floor is a memorial stone with a Japanese haiku that reflects the architectural vision of the architects. The poem connects water, glass, and light as fundamental elements that shape how the building sits in its landscape.
