St. Theresia, Catholic church in Strijp, Netherlands.
Sint-Theresiakerk is a three-nave brick basilica with a high rectangular central nave, square tower, and semicircular apse located at Carmelitessenstraat 2 in Eindhoven. The substantial brick structure shapes the district's streetscape and displays original interior furnishings.
Built in 1927 by architect Martinus van Beek, the church emerged during a period when Philips company expansion brought residential growth to Strijp. The construction addressed the need for religious space in a rapidly developing neighborhood.
The interior features wall paintings by Charles Eyck, including a depiction of Saint Theresa kneeling above the triumphal arch that shapes the visual character of the space. These artworks remain central to how the church presents itself today.
Access to the building may be limited since the church has not hosted regular services since 2013, and its protected monument status restricts regular use. Visitors should check ahead whether tours are available or if viewing the exterior is sufficient for their visit.
The building preserves its complete original interior with marble and brass altars crafted by Jorna and wrought ironwork from local Eindhoven artisans. These handcrafted details reveal the quality of local workmanship from the 1920s.
