Wolfrath Castle

Wolfrath Castle is a castle in Born featuring two perpendicular wings that meet at a square corner tower topped with a dome-shaped roof. The structure sits surrounded by water-filled moats that create a traditional defensive design around its brick and stone walls.

The castle was built between 1615 and 1663, growing from a simple farmhouse into a fortified castle through the work of the Van Bentinck family. This transformation took place during a time when wealthy families were expanding their estates in the Dutch countryside.

The great hall contains a natural stone fireplace from the 1600s decorated with coats of arms that show the family connections of nobility who lived here. Visitors today can observe these carved details and understand how the noble residents displayed their status through their surroundings.

The castle now operates as a bed and breakfast with four rooms that include flat-screen televisions and wireless internet for guests. Since it is a private accommodation, those interested in visiting should contact ahead to check availability and any access arrangements.

A limestone gate tower displays an alliance shield from 1663 showing the union of the Bentinck and Van Breyll families through stone carving. This stone marker reveals how families of the era announced their connections and alliances to anyone passing through the entrance.
