BunkerToren, Residential tower in Woensel, Netherlands.
BunkerToren is a residential tower in Eindhoven standing 100 meters tall with an innovative facade of natural stone, glass, and wood elements. The building combines apartments and office spaces while featuring underground parking that frees up more ground-level area for green spaces.
The building originates from a 1960s student center designed by architect Huig Maaskant. Its modern redevelopment preserved elements of the original structure while reinterpreting it for contemporary residential use.
The name BunkerToren reflects its fortress-like appearance, evoking the fortified structures of the post-war era. Visitors notice how the strong horizontal lines and interplay of concrete and glass create a stern yet engaging visual identity.
The building is best explored on foot or by bike since parking is entirely underground. Upper floors offer views across Eindhoven while entrances to residential and office spaces are distributed across multiple access points.
The project received recognition in 2023 from the Dutch architectural association BNA as the most notable building for identity and symbolic value. This acknowledgment highlights how successfully the balance between preserving history and contemporary redefinition was achieved.
