Fannaråki, Mountain summit in Jotunheimen National Park, Norway
Fannaråki is a mountain summit in Jotunheimen at approximately 2.070 meters with steep walls facing south. The northern side drops more gently toward the Fanaråkbreen glacier below.
The name comes from two Old Norse elements: 'fonn' meaning snow glacier and 'råk' referring to a mountain ridge. This naming reflects the peak's defining natural features.
The summit draws mountaineers from across Norway who come to test themselves on this classic peak. You will see climbers sharing routes and stories at the mountain hut, connecting to a long tradition of alpinism in these highlands.
Access to the summit follows a marked hiking trail starting from Sognefjellshytta lodge with moderate difficulty. The Fannaråkhytta mountain hut provides shelter and lodging for those climbing in the area.
The summit experiences sharp temperature swings between around 2 degrees in January and about 18 degrees in June. This wide range makes it a valuable location for observing how climate shifts dramatically across seasons in the high alpine zone.
