Skogadalsbøen, Tourist cabin in Luster Municipality, Norway
Skogadalsbøen is a mountain cabin situated at 834 meters above sea level in the Utladalen valley within the western section of Jotunheimen national park. It provides 109 beds and serves as a starting point for hikers exploring multiple trails throughout the area.
The Norwegian Trekking Association built their eighth cabin here in 1888 to support mountaineers and travelers exploring the region. The original capacity of 12 beds was gradually expanded to meet growing demand.
The cabin represents the Norwegian tradition of mountain lodging, managed by DNT to facilitate access to wilderness areas for outdoor recreation enthusiasts.
Access requires hiking through the valley on a well-marked path that experiences different conditions depending on the season. The best time to visit is from spring through autumn when the facility is fully accessible and operational.
The location originated as summer mountain farms before transforming into a crucial overnight stop for people traversing the extensive network of hiking paths.
