Bridge in Vigeland Sculpture Park, Pedestrian bridge in Vigeland Sculpture Park, Oslo, Norway.
This stone bridge runs along a central pathway in Vigeland Sculpture Park, lined on both sides with bronze figures mounted on granite bases. It connects different sections of the park and offers views across the landscaped grounds.
Artist Gustav Vigeland completed this bridge in 1943 as an essential part of his major sculpture project. It was one of the final components added to his overall park design.
The sculptures on the bridge show people in everyday moments, capturing how different ages interact and relate to each other. Walking across, you notice the way each figure seems to belong to a specific time in life.
The easiest access is through the main park entrance, where you follow the central pathway. During wet weather, the surface can become slippery, so good footwear is recommended.
Each of the 58 bronze figures was individually cast and given different poses, so no two are exactly alike. This craftsmanship shows the care Vigeland took in shaping each human form.
