Frognerbadet, Public swimming complex in Frogner district, Norway.
Frognerbadet is an outdoor public swimming facility in Oslo's Frogner district, set within the grounds of Frogner Park. It has two full-length lanes pools, a children's pool, and a diving tower, all surrounded by open grass areas.
Frognerbadet opened in 1956 as a public facility meant to bring outdoor swimming to Oslo's residents. It has remained in continuous use since then, passing from one generation of swimmers to the next without major interruption.
In summer, Frognerbadet draws Oslo locals who come to sunbathe on the grass around the pools as much as to swim. The mood is relaxed and social, closer to a park outing than a trip to an indoor pool.
The facility is open during the summer months, as it is an outdoor complex with no indoor alternative on site. The surrounding park offers plenty of open space to rest or spread out before or after swimming.
Frognerbadet sits right next to Vigeland Sculpture Park, home to Norway's largest collection of works by a single artist. A trip to the pool can easily turn into a walk among hundreds of stone and bronze figures without going anywhere else.
