Valkyrie plass

Valkyrie plass is a triangular square in central Oslo's Majorstuen district, bounded by Valkyriegata, Bogstadveien, and Jacob Aall's gate. The surrounding streets converge at this transport hub.

The square gained importance following a tunnel collapse in 1928 that led to the construction of a metro station. This station operated until its closure in 1985.

The square takes its name from valkyries, female warrior figures from Norse mythology that reflect the area's connection to Nordic heritage. This mythological reference shapes how locals and visitors understand the place.

Two active tram lines from Oslo's tramway system serve the area regularly throughout the day. The good transport connections make this spot easy to reach.

A preserved staircase from the former metro station lies beneath the square and remains in use as an emergency exit and maintenance access. This staircase offers a glimpse into the vanished infrastructure.
