Chandeshwari temple

The Chandeshwari temple is a Hindu temple near Banepa that stands along the Punya mata River beside Ghokechaur village. The structure displays traditional Nepalese architectural style with intricate carved stone details and multiple levels that represent a well-preserved example of this building tradition.

The sanctuary was built in the 17th century and is an important example of religious architecture from that period in Nepal. Its walls display elaborate artistic works showing religious themes and mythological depictions that reflect the artistic standards of that era.

The temple is dedicated to Goddess Chandeshwari and draws many Hindu pilgrims, especially during the Dashain festival when worshippers gather to honor her power over evil. Local visitors view this place as a spiritual center where the goddess's protective energy is present.

The temple is located about one kilometer northeast of Banepa and is accessible by foot via a marked path through the surrounding area. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and follow local custom by approaching the temple with respectful behavior.

The temple walls display a mural showing the mythological battle where Chandeshwari defeated the demon Chanda. Visible scratches on nearby rocks are said to be marks from this legendary fight, creating a tangible link between the myth and the physical landscape that visitors can observe.
