Surigao del Sur

Surigao del Sur spans across 4,932 square kilometers of mountainous terrain, rivers, coastal areas, and agricultural lands along the northeastern coast of Mindanao.

The Philippine government established Surigao del Sur as an independent province on June 19, 1960, when it separated from its northern counterpart through Republic Act 2786.

The Manobo, Mamanwa, and Mandaya indigenous groups maintain their traditional practices alongside the Surigaonon communities throughout the province's municipalities.

Travelers reach the province through Tandag Airport or the Pan-Philippine Highway, with local transportation options including buses and passenger vans between municipalities.

The Hinatuan Enchanted River flows through the province with water so clear that fish swimming at 80 feet deep remain visible from the surface.
