Aliwagwag Protected Landscape, Protected area in Davao Region, Philippines
Aliwagwag Protected Landscape is a nature reserve in the Davao Region that spans across several municipalities and protects forests, rivers, and waterfalls. It has trails and viewing areas that connect different natural features and ecosystems throughout the land.
This area was originally part of a forest reserve established in 1931 that covered a larger region. It became officially protected under its current designation in 2011.
The Mandaya people farm in designated areas using methods passed down through generations, keeping local agricultural knowledge alive. Walking through these zones, you see how communities integrate their livelihoods with forest conservation.
You can enter at several designated points with marked trails leading into different areas of the protected landscape. The dry season is the best time to visit when trails are most accessible and water levels are lower.
The landscape contains the highest waterfall system in the Philippines, with many tiers dropping more than 1,100 feet (340 meters). This impressive waterfall chain runs along the Cateel River and forms one of the region's most striking natural features.
