Binangonan, Coastal municipality in Rizal Province, Philippines
Binangonan is a coastal municipality in Rizal Province that spreads along the eastern shores of Laguna de Bay, encompassing mainland areas and numerous islands. The town is divided into more than 40 administrative barangays connected by water and land routes.
Franciscan missionaries established an independent parish here in 1621, laying the foundation for the future town. The municipality received formal recognition in 1900 during the American colonial period.
The Santa Ursula Parish Church, built during Spanish colonial times, remains the religious heart of the town. The nearby Angono-Binangonan Petroglyphs reveal ancient indigenous art forms that visitors can see in the surrounding landscape.
Travel to the island areas happens mainly by boat or ferry from the mainland barangays. Visitors should prepare for wet conditions and seasonal weather patterns that affect water transportation.
The town combines 23 mainland barangays and 17 island territories, a geographic arrangement few Philippine municipalities share. This distributed layout shapes how residents live and work across water and land.
