Armed Forces of the Philippines Medical Center, military unit
The Armed Forces of the Philippines Medical Center is a military hospital in Quezon City, situated along V. Luna Avenue. It has several specialized departments, an emergency unit, and outpatient clinics that serve both military personnel and civilians.
The hospital was proposed by Colonel Victoriano Luna in 1935 and opened in 1937. After heavy damage during World War II and several relocations, it received its current name in 1975.
The center is named after Colonel Victoriano Luna, a doctor and war hero whose memory is felt throughout the compound. Visitors notice the military presence in everyday routines, from the uniforms of the staff to the orderly way the grounds are kept.
The hospital sits on V. Luna Avenue and can be reached by several bus routes, while the nearest MRT-3 station is about a 15-minute walk away. Going early in the day generally means shorter waits at the outpatient and emergency areas.
In the 1950s, the facility became the first in the Philippines to manufacture artificial limbs on site. The program not only helped amputees recover but also trained workers from other government agencies in the same techniques.
