Kirthar National Park

Kirthar National Park is a protected area in the Kirthar Mountains featuring rocky slopes and scattered forest patches across its terrain. The landscape varies in elevation and habitat type, creating distinct zones where different species thrive.

The government protected this area as the country's first national park in 1974, a milestone that led to its listing by the United Nations a year later. This designation began the modern conservation effort for the region.

Rani Kot Fort and Chaukhandi-style tombs scattered through the landscape reveal architectural traditions from the 18th century. These structures show how local communities expressed their heritage through distinctive building forms over generations.

Plan ahead since facilities are limited and you will need to arrange accommodations in advance. Local guides offer valuable assistance for wildlife viewing and hiking through the varied terrain.

The park shelters around 33 mammal species including leopards, striped hyenas, and the Sindh ibex, animals found nowhere else in this concentration. Nearly 150 bird species also make their home here, alongside numerous reptile populations that attract nature watchers.
