Pharwala

Pharwala is a fortress spread across a large area of elevated terrain situated between a river and mountain ranges. The complex features six sandstone gates, though the walls and entrances show significant deterioration today.

A ruling family built this fortress in the early medieval period to assert authority over the surrounding region. A Mughal leader later took control and incorporated it into his expanding empire.

The site has been tied to a ruling family for roughly a thousand years, shaping the region and leaving their mark on its gates and structures. This connection remains visible in the names given to different entrances and burial locations throughout the grounds.

The site is challenging to reach due to limited road access and lack of maintenance in many areas. Visitors should prepare accordingly and seek local guidance, as conditions can be rough.

Within the fortress grounds stands an ancient tree that has survived for centuries, offering visitors a rare connection to past generations. This living landmark documents the ages of early settlement at this site.
