Wrocław Zoological Garden, Zoological garden in Wrocław, Poland.
Wrocław Zoological Garden is a large animal park in the city of Wrocław, Poland, spreading across extensive grounds with different themed sections. The site is organized into several zones, including an aquarium complex, enclosures for African and Asian species, and an area dedicated to primates and reptiles.
The park was established in 1865 during Prussian rule under the name Breslau Zoological Garden, making it one of the oldest animal parks in Europe. After destruction in World War II, reconstruction began, and the site reopened to visitors in 1948 under Polish administration.
The name Wrocławski Ogród Zoologiczny is often shortened to "Zoo Wrocław" by locals, and the entrance sits in a quiet residential neighborhood where families spend the day with children. On weekends the pathways fill with visitors walking between enclosures and pausing at information boards to learn about the animals.
The entrance sits near the Oder riverbank, and pathways through the park are mostly paved and suitable for strollers, though some sections have gentle slopes. On hot days it helps to arrive early, as many animals are more active in the morning hours and shaded areas remain cooler.
The Africarium section opened in 2014 and is the only facility in Poland dedicated solely to aquatic life and habitats from Africa, including penguins and sharks. Visitors can walk through an underwater tunnel and observe animals from a perspective usually reserved for divers.
