Government Protection Bureau, Government security agency in Warsaw, Poland
The Government Protection Bureau was the state agency in Warsaw responsible for safeguarding government members and important facilities throughout Poland. The agency worked closely with military and police units to ensure security during official events.
The agency was founded in 1956 and developed security procedures during the post-war period in Poland. In 2018 it was transformed into the State Protection Service, receiving new tasks and structures.
The Government Protection Bureau received the Medal 'Guardian of National Memorials' for its dedication to preserving and protecting national monuments and institutions.
The agency coordinated its work with different departments during state visits and official ceremonies. Visitors could see the building from the outside, but access to the interior was restricted to authorized personnel.
The agency offered former presidents lifelong protection, while past prime ministers received security measures for only six months. This arrangement reflected the different constitutional standing of the two offices.
