Łazienki Park, Royal park complex in Ujazdów, Poland.
Łazienki Park is a royal park complex in the Ujazdów district of Warsaw, covering 76 hectares with gardens, pavilions, statues, and water features. At its heart stands a palace on an artificial island in the lake, surrounded by open lawns and tree-lined avenues.
King Stanisław August Poniatowski began transforming the grounds around a bathing pavilion into a summer residence with formal gardens during the 1760s. The work continued until the monarch abdicated in 1795, when Poland was partitioned by neighboring powers.
Peacocks wander freely along the paths between neoclassical buildings, adding to the regal feel of the grounds. The lakeside amphitheater hosts open-air music performances today, continuing its tradition as a gathering place for listeners and performers.
Three main gates provide access to the grounds daily between 5:00 AM and 10:00 PM, and entry to the park itself is free. Visiting interiors of museum buildings requires separate tickets available on site at those locations.
Every Sunday between May and September free piano recitals take place near the Chopin monument, where peacocks wander among listeners seated on benches. The monument itself was rebuilt after World War II, having been destroyed by German forces in 1940.
