Centrum Bankowo-Finansowe, Modern office building in Śródmieście, Warsaw, Poland
Centrum Bankowo-Finansowe is a modern office complex with a four-sided layout and wide ground-floor arcades surrounding a large interior courtyard. The building at Nowy Świat 6/12 provides extensive workspace while its design creates a sheltered public area in the middle of the city.
Built between 1948 and 1952, it served as headquarters for the Central Committee of the Polish United Workers' Party. After 1990 and the political changes, the party vacated the building and it took on different roles.
The granite in its walls comes from a demolished mausoleum, connecting this modern building to a forgotten past. Walking through the interior reveals how construction materials themselves can carry history forward in unexpected ways.
The building sits near the Charles de Gaulle roundabout and is easy to reach from many parts of Warsaw. The ground-level arcades are open to the public and provide a comfortable route for crossing the city center.
From 1991 to 2000 it housed the Warsaw Stock Exchange before the operation moved elsewhere. The building's solid steel structures inside were well-suited to the security needs of a financial hub.
