Kowary, Mining town in Lower Silesia, Poland

Kowary is a municipality at the foot of the Karkonosze Mountains in Lower Silesia, surrounded by forests and mountain terrain. The town sits in a mountainous region where valleys and slopes shape its layout.

The settlement started in 1148 when miners extracted ores under Duke Bolesław IV, establishing a mining community that would shape the area for centuries. This mining tradition became the foundation for the town's growth and identity.

The Miniature Park displays replicas of buildings from the region, offering visitors a look at local architecture and design. Walking through these models helps you understand the building styles found across the surrounding area.

You can reach Kowary by train from Jelenia Góra, traveling through the mountainous Lower Silesian landscape. The journey itself provides views of the surrounding terrain as you approach the town.

Old uranium mines beneath the town now serve as tourist routes, allowing visitors to descend into the underground tunnels. These former mining operations offer a rare chance to see the mining heritage below ground.
