Western Tatras, Mountain range in Carpathians, Slovakia and Poland.

The Western Tatras are a mountain range along the border between Slovakia and Poland with numerous peaks and steep slopes. The landscape shows different zones, from dense forests in the lower areas to open plateaus and mountain meadows at higher elevations.

The mountain range was formed millions of years ago through tectonic forces and later shaped by glaciers. In the 20th century, both sides were protected as national parks to preserve the natural environment for future generations.

The communities in the nearby villages maintain their own way of life, with local customs and traditions deeply rooted in mountain living. You can see this in handcrafted goods, folk music, and festivals that happen throughout the year in the region.

There are many marked trails for hiking that connect both countries and are accessible from various villages on both sides. The best time to visit is from late spring through early autumn when the weather is stable and the paths are free from snow.

The Tatras are known for being the southernmost mountain landscape in Europe, which creates a special mix of animal and plant species. Rare animals like bears and marmots live here between forest areas and alpine meadows.
