Green Gate, City gate at Long Market, Poland

The Green Gate is a four-story structure at the Long Market with two passages, featuring over 200 sculptures and ornaments carved into its stone facade. The interior spaces function as gallery rooms that display rotating exhibitions throughout the year.

The gate was built between 1564 and 1568 under architects Regnier from Amsterdam and Hans Kramer from Dresden as a royal residence. This construction marked the city's role as an important seat for Polish monarchs during that period.

The gate now hosts rotating art exhibitions featuring works by Polish and international artists, giving visitors a chance to see contemporary pieces displayed within its historic stone walls. Walking through the interior feels like stepping between two different worlds—old architecture and modern creativity side by side.

You can explore the interior on most weekdays, with the main entrance located on Long Market street. It helps to check what exhibition is currently on display, as the contents change regularly throughout the year.

For many years, the building served as an office for a Polish president before those operations relocated to another venue. This unexpected dual purpose connects royal history with modern political functions in a single space.
