Jabłonki, Village in Lesko County, Poland
Jabłonki is a village in Gmina Baligród in Subcarpathian Voivodeship, situated in southeastern Poland near the Bieszczady mountains. The settlement sits roughly 10 kilometers south of Baligród and belongs to Lesko County.
Church records from the late 18th century first documented the settlement with family names such as Ilkiw, Rabyk, and Petryk. The village became the site where General Karol Świerczewski was killed in 1947 during an ambush by the Ukrainian Insurgent Army.
The Church of Pokrovy Presviatoi Bogoroditsi, constructed during the first half of the 18th century, represents the religious heritage of this Polish village.
The village is reached via local roads that connect Baligród with the mountainous southeastern region. It makes sense to visit this area during warmer months when road conditions in this hilly terrain are most favorable.
A wooden church from the early 18th century stands at the heart of the settlement, reflecting the religious building traditions of the region. Its simple design is typical of the sacred architecture found in this mountain area.
