Cisna-Wetlina Landscape Park, Nature reserve in Bieszczady County, Poland.
Cisna-Wetlina Landscape Park is a protected area spanning roughly 51,000 hectares in the Western Bieszczady region, encompassing mountains and forests with peaks reaching about 1,200 meters high. Seven nature reserves within its boundaries, including Cisy na Górze Jawor and Sine Wiry, offer marked hiking trails that showcase different natural environments and features.
This protected area was established in 1992, following significant population shifts in the 1940s when Lemko and Boyko communities departed the region. The departure of these groups set the stage for the land's transformation into a conservation area decades later.
The landscape bears traces of former communities and age-old farming methods that shaped the mountain meadows over centuries. Walking through, visitors can see how this human influence continues to define the current appearance of the valleys and hillsides.
The park is best explored on foot through its marked trails, which offer varying levels of difficulty and different landscapes. Visitors should prepare for changing mountain weather and bring suitable gear to handle conditions across the higher elevations and more exposed sections.
The area is part of the Eastern Carpathians International Biosphere Reserve and provides habitat for bears, wolves, lynxes, and wildcats living together in the wild. This congregation of large predators in one place remains uncommon in Europe, making it remarkable for nature enthusiasts.
