Gmina Komańcza

Gmina Komańcza is a rural municipality in Sanok County, southeastern Poland, covering approximately 450 square kilometers across numerous villages. The territory includes portions of the Cisna-Wetlina Landscape Park and shares a border with Slovakia.

The municipality was established in its current form during the 1998 Polish local government reforms, which reorganized administrative divisions throughout the country. This restructuring created the territorial framework that exists today.

The region contains several villages where Polish, Pogorzan, and Lemko communities maintain their traditions through local festivals and events that shape village life. These cultural practices remain visible in how communities gather and celebrate throughout the year.

The area features mountainous and hilly terrain with forests and meadows suitable for walking and exploration. Visitors should expect variable weather and plan to use a car to travel between scattered villages.

The area contains the Duszatyn Lakes, formed in 1907 when a landslide from Mount Chryszczata created natural dams in the Olchowaty stream. This geological formation makes the region notable for its natural features.
