Block 10

Block 10 is a brick building in Auschwitz I that served as a hospital ward and laboratory facility. The structure contained specialized examination rooms and treatment areas where procedures were conducted on prisoners.

The building was repurposed starting in 1941 as a site for medical experiments overseen by camp physicians. These activities continued throughout the Nazi occupation.

Block 10 stands as a permanent exhibit within the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, documenting the medical atrocities of the Holocaust.

The building can only be visited through guided tours available at the site, which provide detailed explanations. Visitors should allow adequate time for the visit and prepare emotionally for what they will encounter.

The building was unusual because although it stood in the section of men's blocks, it primarily housed female prisoners. This arrangement was deliberately chosen for specific medical purposes.
