Bateria Goeben

Bateria Goeben is a coastal artillery fortification in Świnoujście with three massive gun positions, underground bunkers, and an eight-story command tower designed for naval defense. The entire complex was positioned strategically by the sea to detect and engage ships from a distance.

German military forces constructed this facility between 1938 and 1939, installing large-caliber cannons capable of reaching targets far offshore. The construction coincided with rapid military expansion along the Baltic Sea coast.

The command tower functions today as a place where visitors learn about coastal defense strategies and military engineering from the early 20th century. The site tells the story of how armed forces monitored ships and protected coastlines from attack.

The site is accessible via marked forest paths and offers guided tours through the command tower complex, especially during warmer months. Visitors should prepare for uneven ground and possibly damp conditions since the facility sits in a coastal environment.

The command tower housed an optical rangefinder under an armored dome that could track vessels from remarkable distances. This equipment represented advanced technology for its era and enabled precise target acquisition across open water.
