Vineta coastal artillery battery complex in Świnoujście

The Vineta coastal artillery battery is a complex of seven concrete bunkers built on two levels, positioned strategically along the Baltic Sea shore. These structures are connected by an underground network that enabled coordinated defense of the coastal area.

Construction of this coastal defense system began in 1935 on orders from the Kriegsmarine and the site operated actively until 1945 during World War II. This period shaped the engineering design and the structure visible today.

The complex now houses the Museum of Coastal Defense, where visitors can see military equipment and learn about how this region protected its waters during wartime.

Visitors can only explore the underground sections with a guided tour, which includes detailed explanations of the military engineering and defensive strategy. Sturdy shoes and patience for navigating tight spaces are helpful for the visit.

The site preserves original German periscopes and artillery measuring instruments used to monitor ship movements in Pomeranian Bay. These devices reveal the practical methods that operators used to watch the waters from these fortified positions.
