Schweikert Factory

The Schweikert Factory is an elongated industrial building constructed from red brick with extensive rows of windows that dominates one section of Wolczanska Street. Its structure features a straightforward functional design typical of late 19th-century manufacturing facilities, with a layout built for efficient production workflow.

Hermann Schweikert established the factory in 1893, and it operated as a woolen scarf production facility with goods shipped to Russia. The building remained active through the end of World War II, after which it underwent conversion for different purposes.

The structure displays its industrial past through red brick facades and rows of large windows that once lit the factory floors. These design choices reveal how manufacturers once organized spaces for efficient work and natural lighting.

The building now houses several departments of the Łódź University of Technology and is generally accessible during university hours. Visitors should note that it remains an active academic building, so certain areas may have restricted access.

The building earned the nickname 'Tram' for its extraordinary length, making it the largest structure associated with the university. This distinctive elongated form makes it a memorable landmark in the urban landscape.
