Schronisko Opaczne, Mountain hut in Lesser Poland Voivodeship, Poland
Schronisko Opaczne is a mountain hut located at 850 meters elevation in the Jalowieckie mountains of Lesser Poland Voivodeship. The building offers sleeping quarters on the ground floor with kitchen and dining spaces situated below.
The building began as a private residence but underwent transformation into a mountain refuge in 1990 to serve hikers and travelers. This conversion marked an important shift in how the location functioned.
The refuge was named after a respected professor and carried different names that reflected local mountain traditions and stories.
The mountain hut sits at elevation and is most easily reached during warmer months when mountain paths are easier to navigate. Visitors should bring sturdy footwear and supplies since the location is remote.
In its early years of operation, the refuge experimented with a wind power station on its grounds. The concrete foundations of this early installation remain visible today.
