Spichrze BRE, Modern bank headquarters on Brda River, Bydgoszcz, Poland
Spichrze BRE is a modern bank headquarters on the Brda River in Bydgoszcz, consisting of two connected structures made of glass and clinker brick with varying heights. The building includes an underground section linked to the neighboring Lloyd's Palace.
Designed by architects Andrzej Bulanda and Włodzimierz Mucha, the building marked one of the first major corporate office developments in Poland after 1989. It represents the architectural renewal that followed the country's political transformation.
The building merges the shape of traditional grain stores with contemporary design, creating a visual link between Bydgoszcz's industrial past and modern architecture. Visitors can see this blend in the form and materials that define the structure.
The location sits directly on the Brda riverbank and connects to the neighboring Lloyd's Palace through underground passages, providing shelter during bad weather. The setting allows for walks along the river and viewing the surrounding architecture.
The foundation required special reinforcement with limestone-cement columns because the ground at this riverside location is weak and water-saturated. This technical solution made the project a notable example of building under challenging geological conditions.
