Stopień Wodny Przewóz, Water control structure in Nowa Huta district, Kraków, Poland.
Stopień Wodny Przewóz is a water control installation on the Vistula River that spans about 130 meters and serves several purposes at once. The facility regulates water levels, allows boats to pass through a lock system, and provides a passage for migrating fish.
The facility was built between 1949 and 1954 as the first major water control project on the Upper Vistula following World War II. It marked the start of modern water management on this stretch of the river.
The dam site serves as an educational center where visitors learn about water management systems and their impact on urban development in Kraków.
The site is best viewed from the riverbank or nearby bridges and can be observed freely from outside without entry fees. There is minimal signage on the grounds, so it helps to orient yourself with photos or a local map beforehand.
The four gates of the structure are each about 20 meters wide and equipped with special ice flaps that prevent ice blocks from damaging the facility during winter. This technical solution allows reliable operation even under harsh winter conditions.
