Wyspa na Kapuściskach, River island in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
Wyspa na Kapuściskach is an artificially created river island in the Brda within Bydgoszcz, situated between the Kapuściska and Bartodzieje districts. The site is covered with dense vegetation and has no pathways or access points for visitors.
This island formed in 1897 during the straightening of the Brda River, when engineers altered a natural meander. A lock formerly stood nearby and was demolished in 1910, leaving traces of earlier river management behind.
Local stories connect this place to dramatic tales that historical records do not confirm. Such narratives nonetheless shape how residents perceive this isolated river area.
The site is not accessible to visitors due to missing pathways and dense overgrowth. You can view it from the riverbank nearby, though direct access is not permitted.
Few people know this island was created entirely by human engineering and is not a natural formation. What was once an engineering project has become an untouched wild area that no one can enter.
