Cmentarz św. Józefa Bydgoszcz

St. Joseph Cemetery is a 4.5 hectare burial ground laid out in a trapezoidal shape and crossed by a main avenue. The site contains roughly 2,700 burial plots arranged within a system of paths that wind between mature trees and monuments throughout the grounds.

The burial ground was established in 1822 for the Evangelical community of Małe Bartodzieje. It later served multiple faith communities, adapting to the changing religious makeup of the city over generations.

The cemetery reflects the religious diversity that once shaped this city, with sections that show how different faiths coexisted in burial practices. You can see how the grounds tell the story of communities living side by side, their choices in how they commemorated the dead revealing much about daily life here.

The cemetery sits at the intersection of Torunska and Wladyslaw Belza streets, making it easy to locate. The pathways throughout are well-defined and navigable, allowing visitors to walk the grounds at their own pace.

The grounds contain a small red brick chapel known locally as 'Boza Meka', following a traditional design built at crossroads. Constructed in the 19th century, this structure stands as a quiet reminder of religious customs once practiced throughout the region.
